DOWNHILLDUKE'S
PROJECT OVERVIEW:
Welcome to Downhill Duke’s. People like to think that Duke had a lot of friends in Copper’s avalanche dog rescue program – one of the first in the state of Colorado. Unfortunately, he didn’t make the cut as a rescue dog himself. He just knew how to throw a really good party.
With a south-facing patio, enjoy lunch in the afternoon sunshine over shared plates and live music. Come for lunch but stick around for après. Unbuckle your boots and kick back with a lively libation or two and a locally-sourced menu around outdoor heaters and fire pits.
Top off your day with more live music that will get you on your feet or perhaps the tables. Downhill Duke’s invites you to bring Fido along. The menu features dog-friendly items and a special patio area where your furry friend can put up their paws after a hard day of romping in the snow.
The goals for this project were to amplify and reimaging a very dated umbrella bar that was rarely open due to limitations in the weather. We set off with this project to create an open environment that could seat resort partons year-round. The large pergola structure boasts large natural gas surface heaters that are capable of warming people even in the heart of winter. The furniture and layout are naturally divided by the bar, the west side features more of a traditional dining experience, while the eastern side is more of a lounge with community tables, firepits, sofas, and a dedicated stage for entertainment. On the weekends and during large events the après scene here has been phenomenal.
For this project, I pitched the concept to the team and created all of the architectural renderings that later went on to engineering. I also worked with the team to develop the branding and voice that we wanted to portray for this space. Materials and overall aesthetics were dictated by previous work we had established for the environmental brand ecosystem for Copper Mountain. This was a very cool project to be apart of and I am sure it will continue to be a large epicenter for the base village at the resort for decades to come.
